#DailyDevotion The Father Has Installed Jesus As King

Psalm 2: 4Sitting on His throne in heaven, the Lord laughs and mocks at them. 5Then He talks to them angrily and by His fury terrifies them: 6“I installed My King on Zion, My holy hill.”

So on the one hand, it just rubs me wrong a little that the LORD our God, who is Love laughs and mocks at those people who reject him and reject his son Jesus. But he did send Jesus for them. He does not want any of them to perish. He sacrifices his son for them so they can repent and be saved and live under him in his kingdom. But they do not want this. So I know it saddens him. I know this because Jesus wept for them as he heads for Jerusalem knowing they will reject him. But there comes a time for when weeping and sadness is over. If they will not repent and put their trust in Jesus, God’s only-begotten son, then derision and mocking is all that is left for them. His anger and fury is all that is left for them. Jesus tells the parable of the vineyard and after the tenets kill the son what comes next?

40“Now, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those workers?” 41They said to Him, “He will have those scoundrels die a miserable death and rent out the vineyard to other workers who will bring him the grapes when they’re ripe.” 42Jesus asked them, “Haven’t you ever read in the Scriptures: ‘The Stone the builders rejected has become the Cornerstone. The Lord has done it, and we think it is wonderful? 43That is why I tell you, God’s kingdom will be taken away from you and be given to a people who will do its works. 44Anyone who falls on that Stone will be smashed to pieces, and if It falls on anyone, It will scatter him like dust.”

So we see here in Psalm 2 the LORD speaking angrily with those who oppose him as he declares, I installed My King on Zion, My holy hill.”

(The Anointed:) 7I will tell about the decree of the LORD: He said to Me, “You are My Son, today I have begotten You. 8Ask Me and I will give You the nations as Your inheritance and the most distant parts of the earth as Your possession. 9You will break them in pieces with an iron rod and smash them like a potter’s jar.”

Here we hear Jesus declaring what the Father has said of him. Not only is Jesus the only-begotten of the Father from all eternity, but here as Jesus takes up the mantel of King as God and Man, he is also begotten of the Father according to his human nature. This is most likely a well known enthronement ceremony where the LORD adopts the king of Israel fulfilling what the LORD promised David that his son would be considered by the LORD as his very own son (2 Sam. 7:14). Only Jesus truly fulfills this.

Jesus has taken up his place at the right hand of God. He is ruling over the nations preparing his kingdom to be revealed on earth to the nations at his return. He will possess all distant parts of the earth and smash and break his enemies to pieces with an iron rod. If you hate him, reject him and have not put you trust him, take notice. Repent today while you still can. While you have breath you have time to repent of your unbelief and turn to him for mercy, kindness, steadfast love and forgiveness. He will not turn you away.

Heavenly Father, grant us faith in your only-begotten son, Jesus Christ, that you may look kindly toward us and bring us into his kingdom now and at the end of the age, so we may live under him and his goodness for all eternity. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
