#DailyDevotion Be Confident In The LORD & Praise Him

Psalm 108 I am confident, O God. I want to sing and make music even with my soul.

This Psalm is made up of two Psalms, 57 and 50. Not the whole of those Psalms mind you, just portions of them. Apparently David thought their themes were worth bringing back up and joining together. As they are of David, the themes come to us during his lifetime.

He says God he is confident and wants to sing and make music even with his soul. Now we know his confidence is not himself but in God the LORD. It was in confident trust of the LORD’s promises to Israel that David faced Goliath and killed him. It was in his trust in the LORD’s promises to him individually, being anointed by Saul that gave him confidence to face the enemies’ armies and put them to rout.

What promises from the LORD make you confident? Which ones make you want to sing and make music with your soul. Jesus is our Immanuel (God with us). With that we have three promises. “Wherever two or three are gathered in My name, there am I in the midst of them.” “Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the age.” “I will never leave you or forsake you.” These are always important to me. How about, “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved.” How about, “God was in Christ Jesus reconciling the world to Himself.” “Whoever believes in Me has eternal life.” “I have conquered the world.” Hopefully some of these will make you want to sing and be confident.

2Wake up, lute and lyre, that I might wake up the dawn. 3I will thank You among the nations, O LORD, and play music to praise You among the people, 4because Your kindness is greater than the heavens, and Your faithfulness reaches the skies.

David calls for his instruments to wake up so he may wake up the dawn. David was up early and early in the morning before the sun rises, he wants to praise the LORD. How do you face the morning? Begin your morning with God’s promises and you will be gladder throughout the day. Are you facing the dawn and the day with the kindness and faithfulness of the LORD? David starts the day with thanksgiving to the LORD and that is a good way to wake up. Wake up and remember you are worth more to the LORD than the birds He feeds and the grass He clothes. He knows what you need before you ask Him. He gives the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him. Jesus’ crucifixion is the sign He has given us of His love and concern for us. It shows us the Father’s great kindness to us to wipe away our sins and iniquities. He shows us His faithfulness as in Christ Jesus, He fulfilled His promise made to us to Eve, her Seed would crush the serpent’s head. Jesus’ resurrection fulfills the promise to remove the veil of death that covers the world since our rebellion in the Garden.

5O God, be high over the heavens, and let Your glory be over all the earth.

Words of praise for the Almighty, David teaches us how to praise Him. He should be high above the heavens. That is we should treat Him as the One is greater than all our idols, Who alone does all good things for us. To have God’s glory be over all the earth is to praise Him for all His goodness to us by His grace. When we speak of Jesus Christ, His great sacrifice for us and for all people, we let His glory be over all the earth. When we live our lives according to this great truth, we give Him glory not only with our lips but with our lives.

Heavenly Father, give us Your Holy Spirit, so we may rightly praise, honor, and glorify You and Your Son, Jesus Christ, all our days now and into eternity. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
