#DailyDevotion You Face Life Differently When The LORD Jesus Is Your Trust

Psalm 18 27Yes, You save a suffering people, but You humble those who look proud. 28You light my lamp, O LORD; my God lights up my darkness. 29With You I can run into a troop; with My God I can jump over a wall. 30God’s way is perfect; the LORD’s promise has been tested by fire. He’s a Shield to all who go to Him for shelter.

David proclaims the LORD saves a suffering people but humbles those who look proud. One thing we can see in David’s life is his humility. Even with all the victories the LORD gives him, he recognizes and gives credit to the LORD. Saul on the other hand was very proud which is why he got himself into the spot he was in, dead.

What is this lamp David speaks of? I believe it is hope in the face of hopelessness. David says with the LORD he can run into a troop and jump over a wall. David remembered the LORD’s promise, if they were faithful, one man would chase ten. That is how he could boldly stand before Goliath and believe he could win. It wasn’t his own power and strength he believed in but the promises of God.

God’s way is perfect. The LORD’s promises have been tested by fire and He is a Shield to all who go to Him for shelter. David’s life and struggles proves this to be true. We all like to think we have faith. Then troubles come. Are we still acting in faith? Are our actions, feelings and thoughts those of a person who believes God’s promises have been tested by fire? Do we act, think and speak as one who trusts the LORD is our shelter. Unfortunately, a lot of times we act more like we have fear i.e. terror instead of faith in the LORD the God of Israel.

So don’t be so faithless and fearful. Jesus Christ is risen from the dead. The scriptures say, “you were once enslaved by the fear of death.” Jesus has freed us from this fear. He has overcome death and the grave and promises if we have faith in him we will be raised to eternal life just like him on the Last Day. There are no circumstances in this world that should cause us to fear for whatever their outcomes, they cannot overcome the resurrection. It’s all temporal, short lived problems. It just seems like an eternity when we are going through it. They are not greater than Jesus’ promise of the resurrection which is eternal.

31Is there any God beside the LORD? Is there any Rock beside our God? 32This God arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. 33He makes my feet like those of deer and gives me a sure footing on the heights. 34He trains my hands to fight so that my arms can bend a bronze bow. 35You gave me Your shield to save me; Your right hand supports me; Your coming down to help me is what makes me great. 36You make a wide path for me to walk on; and my ankles don’t waver.

Well sometimes our fear or what we fear becomes our God. Worldly, fleshly solutions become our Rock. We flee like a deer instead of having feet like one with a sure footing. Yet there is not God besides our LORD Jesus Christ. There is no Rock besides Jesus. Trust that he arms you with strength and makes your way perfect. Trust he will make your feet nimble and secure. You are not fighting against flesh and blood but the powers, principalities etc. of the air. God gives you his armor to fight with. He gives us His Shield and He is our Shield. He supports us in times of trouble. Trust this. Believe this. Act like this in your life.

Heavenly Father, in the day of trouble be our God, be our Rock, be our strength and Shield so we may think, act and speak with faith. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
