#DailyDevotion Why Jesus Endured The Cross & It’s Shame

Psalm 22 27In all parts of the world people will remember and come back to the LORD; all the families of the nations will worship You 28because the LORD is King and rules the nations.

Jesus hanging on the cross does not lose hope. He looks into the future as He prays this psalm and sees the end result. By His death and resurrection people in all the parts of the world will remember and come back to the LORD. It is written in Hebrews 12, “2… For the joy that was set before Him He endured the cross, thinking nothing of its shame, and sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.” This is the joy that is set before Jesus that has Him endure the cross and its shame. All the families of the nations will worship the LORD. Jesus is the LORD who is King and rules the nations.

Matthew writes of it at the end his Gospel, “19Therefore, wherever you go, disciple all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, 20teaching them to observe everything as I have commanded you; and remember, I am with you always until the end of the age.” In Luke 24 Jesus says, 46“This…is what is written: The Christ will suffer and will rise from the dead on the third day; 47and that repentance and the forgiveness of sins will be preached in His name to all people, beginning at Jerusalem. 48You will testify of these things.” In Acts 1 Jesus says, “8But when the Holy Spirit comes on you, you will receive power and will testify of Me in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest parts of the world.” You see Jesus was willing to bear the cross for you and for all people because He believes what the Father told Him, by His sacrifice, repentance and salvation will be made for all people, of all families, of all nations. This means you.

29All the rich people in the world will eat and worship, and all who go down to the dust, who can’t live, will bow before Him.

We see no one is excluded from repentance and salvation. The rich of the world will find salvation in Jesus and those who go down to the dust will repent and receive salvation from His hand. Because He is seated at the right hand of the Father, all will bow down before Him. Even those who refused His grace and mercy must bow down before Him and acknowledge His glory and honor. We will do so willingly as our faith is in Him and His rule.

30There will be descendants that serve Him when those of a coming age are told about the Lord. 31They will come and tell a people still to be born about His righteousness-He has done it!

We who put our faith in Jesus, in His work of salvation for all people on the cross will serve Him. Hebrews 1 says, “11He Who makes men holy and those who are made holy all have one Father. That is why He is not ashamed to call them brothers. 12He says: I will tell My brothers Your name, in the congregation I will sing Your praise. 13And again: ‘I will trust Him.’ And again: ‘Here am I and the children God has given Me.'” Those who came before us, the Apostles and all the martyrs before us told us, a people not yet born about His righteousness, Jesus had done it! We too, who heard and believe, come and stand in their place to tell others not yet born, Jesus has done it. He has won salvation, redemption, eternal life for you by His innocent, suffering and death. Put your faith in Him and as He is risen never to die again. You too will be raised to eternal life.

Merciful God and Father, You sacrificed Your Son Jesus Christ for the world and sat Him down at Your right hand. Grant us faith in Him that we may receive this salvation and open our lips so we may tell our fellows about it, so they too may be saved. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
