#DailyDevotion We Have Good Reason To Praise The LORD

Psalm 33 Shout happily in the LORD, O righteous people! You devout people, it is beautiful to praise. 2Praise the LORD with a lyre; praise Him with a ten-stringed lute. 3Sing to Him a new song; play well on the instruments with happy shouting.

People don’t sing as much in Church as they used to do. I think we have become too self-conscious and worried about what other people will think of our singing. But with the congregation we should shout happily in the LORD. Our voice will not be alone but joined to the other righteous people who trust in the LORD. Even if our singing is not the best, it is still beautiful to praise the LORD when we are devout to the LORD and look to Him alone for every good. Now these opening words are not praise in themselves. They are invitations to us to praise the LORD and sing with happy shouting. The psalmist is inviting us now to sing a new song which in the following verses.

4The LORD’s Word is right, and all His works are faithful. 5He loves what is right and just. The earth is full of the LORD’s goodness.

Whatever the LORD has said in His Word is true, right and faithful. You can depend on it. Whatever promises He has made in the Scriptures, they will come to pass. We see this throughout the Scriptures. The LORD said Abraham would have a child by Sarah and she did when she was ninety years old. He said of Esau and Jacob, the elder would serve the younger and it happened. He said Israel would go down to Egypt, proper, be oppressed and they would be delivered and enter into the land promised to Abraham and they did. The LORD promised a Messiah of the seed of David, who would be a suffering servant. The Messiah would suffer much for the guilt of the people. He would be the Savior of the world and a light to the Gentiles. He said He would suffer, die and be raised on the third day and sit at the right hand of the Father in power and might. All these things happened. His Word is right and His works are faithful.

The LORD loves what is right and just. That is, His love extends to those who do right and execute justice fairly. Who are those who are right and just? Those who trust in Jesus for the forgiveness of sins. Everything apart from faith is sin and without faith it is impossible to please God. In the faith of Christ Jesus not only is righteousness imputed to us, we begin to live out that righteousness in our lives. We have been freed from the power of sin.

We praise the LORD because the earth is full of the LORD’s goodness. Anyplace we do not see the goodness of the LORD is the result of our rebellion against the Almighty. Yet even despite our rebellion and unbelief, the LORD makes the rain fall and the sun shine on both the righteous and the unbeliever. We have our daily bread. We are clothed. Wickedness does not have full reign to where if it did, we would not have a moment’s peace. Crops grow, animals we can eat multiply, we have work, and we even have moments of peace and rest because of the LORD’s goodness towards all people everywhere.

Heavenly Father, open our lips that we may sing the praise of Your goodness. Let us tell the world of Your faithfulness to them in Christ Jesus. May our praise bring to faith those who do not know you yet so they may join us in our happy shouting of how right You are in Your holy Word. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
