#DailyDevotion This Is Not The Most Important Election In Your Lifetime. Jesus Is King.

Psalm 47 All you people, clap your hands; shout to God with loud rejoicing. 2The LORD, the Most High, is awesome; He is the great King over all the earth.

If only we could remember this sometimes we would not get as worked up as we do about politics. We often get riled up like, “this is the most important election of our lifetime.” If we believe these pundits, then we have denied verse 2 of this psalm. Really, truly, think about this verse and what it means for today and tomorrow (if there is one).

The LORD, YHWH, the Most High, is awesome. He is the great King over all the earth. The Israelites sang this even as they were the smallest of nations, surrounded on every side by hostile enemies. Where is your citizenship? Who is your ruler? Is not the LORD, Yahweh, our King? Jesus is our King because He is Yahweh, He is Adonai. Yet we often act like He is not involved nor ruling this world nor guiding the nations to the ushering in or manifesting His kingdom on earth. It’s like He doesn’t really exist.

3He made people bow down to us and put nations under our feet. 4He chose our land for us, the pride of Jacob whom He loved.

We may not see it at the moment, but this is our end and the end of all things. The nations of the world, while they may oppose us, will bow down before us when Christ Jesus manifests Himself to the world. They may trample upon us at the moment. That is only so they may see our faith in Christ and repent and join us. Jesus chose our land for us. He went to prepare a place for us. The New Heavens and New Earth is the land He chose for us.

5God has gone up with a shout of joy, the LORD with the sound of the trumpet.

This refers to the ascension of Jesus Christ to the right hand of God the Father. He ascended there as King of the world, the heavens and the earth. We sing His praises because He rules from there with an iron rod, giving good gifts to men. As He ascended into heaven with the shouts of the Apostles, so too when Jesus descends from heaven with all His heavenly hosts, there will be the sound of the trumpet. The dead in Christ will rise from their graves first and we will be changed and meet the LORD Jesus in the air. Then as everything is manifestly made subject to Him, it is made subject to us, His Church as well.

6Sing to God, praise Him! Sing to our King, praise Him! 7God is King of the whole world – sing with skillful music. 8God is King of the nations; God is sitting on His holy throne. 9May the princes among the nations gather together as a people for Abraham’s God. The shield-bearers of the earth belong to God; He is highly exalted.

We are called to sing to God and praise Him. We are called to sing to our King Jesus Christ and praise Him. Jesus is King of the whole world. Jesus is King of the nations. Jesus is sitting on His holy throne. This is the reality of politics. This is why we should not despair and lose hope as we see the nations and their leaders acting wickedly. This is why we should not act like we have no hope when the world sets about abusing us. We are the princes among the nations who are a people for Abraham’s God. We are the shield-bearers of the earth who belong to God, our LORD Jesus Christ, who is highly exalted. We can watch and see all the turmoil of the world and despise it. We can look down at all the politicking and laugh at it. They have nothing over our King, our Lord, our God, who is Jesus Christ.

Heavenly Father, help us in times when the turmoil of the world overcomes us to remember and believe You have made Jesus Christ LORD, God, King, and Savior who has overcome the world and we have overcome the world with our faith in Him. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
