#DailyDevotion The LORD Fulfilled His Promise To Abraham & To The World

Psalm 105 24He made His people grow rapidly in number and stronger than their enemies. 25They changed their minds so that they hated His people and dealt treacherously with His servants. 26He sent His servant Moses, and Aaron whom He had chosen. 27They did His signs among them and wonders in Ham’s country: 28He sent darkness, and it got dark — they did not rebel against His word. 29He turned their waters to blood and so killed their fish. 30Their country swarmed with frogs, even getting into their kings’ bedrooms. 31He spoke, and swarms of flies came and gnats all over their country. 32He gave them hail instead of rain with fire flashing through their country. 33He struck their vines and fig trees and smashed the trees in their country. 34He spoke, and grasshoppers came, wingless ones that couldn’t be counted. 35They devoured all the plants in their country, everything that grew on their ground. 36He struck down every firstborn in their country, the first ones born of all their manly strength. 37He brought Israel out with silver and gold, and among His tribes no one stumbled. 38The Egyptians were glad they were leaving because they were afraid of them. 39He spread out a cloud to protect them and a fire to light up the night.

The psalmist continues to review all the LORD had done for Israel and their salvation. We know from the scriptures the LORD made the Israelites grow and become prosperous in the land of Egypt. They were getting so numerous, the Pharaoh commanded the midwives to kill all the male children at childbirth but they refused to do so. It was during this time the LORD brought forth Moses and he would become the prophet of the Almighty through whom all these plagues would be visited upon the Egyptians showing them their gods were false and the LORD was the one true God. The LORD then, by killing all the first-born whose families did not trust the LORD, showed how He would bring about the salvation of the world by sacrificing His only-begotten Son, Jesus Christ, who is the Passover, by whose blood death passes over us. The LORD then had the Egyptians give of their wealth to the Israelites as they left their land of misery to go to the Promised Land. Jesus tells us, we who put our trust in Him will inherit the earth.

40They asked, and He brought quail and satisfied them with bread from heaven. 41He opened a rock, and water gushed out and flowed in a stream through the dry places. 42Yes, He remembered His holy promise and His servant Abraham. 43He led out His people with joy, His chosen ones shouting happily. 44He gave them the lands of other nations, and they took what others had worked for — 45so that they might do what He ordered and keep His laws. Praise the LORD!

The LORD provided for the people in the wilderness on their way to the Promised Land. He fed them and provided water for them. He did this because He remembered His promise to His servant Abraham. They came out of Egypt with much joy. The LORD gave them the land of Canaan with vineyards, orchards, and cities already built for them. He gave them this good land and all that was in it because the inhabitants in that land did not heed the words of the prophets that were sent to them, namely Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. They added sin upon their sin till the stench of that sin was so great, the LORD had the Israelites wipe the off the face of the earth in judgment. He gave them this land so they may be His people and live and do all that He ordered. They were to be a witness to the nations to the name of the LORD and all His ways.

Now the Church of Christ has been this duty, to call the nations to repentance. It is to proclaim the blessed seed of Abraham, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, so they may turn from their ways, receive forgiveness from Jesus’ blood and live out the life of Christ Jesus in their lives. Praise the LORD for such a great salvation and the promise of eternal life in the world to come.

Heavenly Father, You demonstrated Your faithfulness through the Israelites. Now grant us faithfulness to Your Son Jesus Christ that we may have eternal life in Him. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
