##DailyDevotion Jesus Of Nazareth Is YHWH God, King Of Israel

Matt. 27:33-38 33They came to a place called Golgotha, which means Skull Place. 34They offered Him a drink of wine, mixed with gall, but when He tasted it, He refused to drink it. 35They crucified Him. And they divided His clothes among them by throwing lots. 36Then they sat down there and kept watch over Him. 37They put above His head a notice stating why He was being punished. It read: THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS. 38Then they crucified two robbers with Him, one at His right and the other at His left.

Before Israel entered the Promised Land he told the people in Deut. 17, 14“When you come to the land the LORD your God gives you and you take it and live there and you say,I’ll appoint a king over me like all the other nations around me,’ 15be sure to appoint as your king one the LORD your God chooses. Make one of your own people king over you; you’re not allowed to appoint a foreigner, who is not of your people, to rule over you.” He knew they would eventually reject Him as their king. However in Deut. 33 it is written, 5“And He was King in Jeshurun when their leaders were gathered and the tribes of Israel were united.” Indeed, the LORD God was their king.

In 1 Samuel 8, it is written, 7“But Samuel didn’t like it that they said, ‘Give us a king to rule over us,’ and Samuel prayed to the LORD. 7′Obey the people,’ the LORD told Samuel, ‘in everything they tell you; they haven’t rejected you but Me from being their King. 8They’re doing to you just as they’ve done from the time I took them out of Egypt until now, leaving Me and worshiping other gods.’” We see here the Israelites in wanting an earthly king like them were rejecting the LORD as King. We see what happens with that. Samuel is their first king and he ended up rejecting the LORD. David whom the LORD chose was obedient to the LORD’s individual directions to him but was still a mess concerning the Law. Solomon ended up bringing idolatry through his wives into Israel. All the following kings of Judah and Israel with a couple of exceptions rejected the LORD’s ways.

Now the LORD God has chosen a king for Israel, the LORD Jesus Christ. Indeed, he is the LORD himself in the flesh. He is God from eternity and a descendant of Jesus according to the flesh. How do his own people treat him? Jesus testified under oath to Pilate in John 19, “Yes, I am a king! I was born and came into the world to testify to the truth. Everyone who lives in the truth listens to Me.” The Jews however told Pilate in John 19:15, “We don’t have any king but Caesar.” Thus rejecting the LORD as king in 1 Samuel and rejecting him again as king here before his crucifixion.

Thus the charge Pilate places above Jesus here, “THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS” is most certainly true. However, after the resurrection, Jesus through his ambassadors, the Apostles, we sent by him to invited everyone into his kingdom and to reign with him. You are invited to have Jesus, the LORD, as your king. Turn from your sins and turn to Jesus and he shall set up his throne in your heart. All your previous rejection of him will be forgiven. The riches of his kingdom he offers to your freely.

Heavenly Father, Almighty King, you sent your son Jesus Christ to be your king for you holy people. Grant us faith to believe in Jesus so he may make our hearts his throne and rule over us so we may live in your peace. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
