#DailyDevotion Fear The LORD And You Will Get To Know Him

Pslam 25 14The secret of the LORD is known to those who fear Him; He will show them what His covenant means.

What is the secret of the LORD? Well if you want to find out, you’ll have to fear Him. The parallel is, “He will show them what His covenant means.” One phrase gives understanding to the other. I believe the secret just is the name He reveals to Moses in Ex. 34:6, “the LORD, the LORD God, merciful and gracious, slow to get angry, rich in love and faithfulness, 7continuing to show mercy to thousands, forgiving wrong, rebellion, and sin, without treating it as innocent, but disciplining children and children’s children to the third and fourth generation for the sins of their fathers.”

When you fear the LORD, i.e. give Him reverence in your heart and your life, you will intimately know the name of the LORD. You will know Him to be merciful, gracious, slow to anger, rich in love and faithfulness. You will know Him to be forgiving but still disciplining us to prevent us from continuing in sin. This is what it means to be in covenant with the LORD Jesus Christ. He is our God. We are his people. He forgives us our sins and remembers them no more. We need only come before him in all humility, admit our faults, believe His promises, trust in His works, especially the work of the cross and we will know what His covenant means.

The secret of the LORD is never let go of Him and He will never let go of you. Never doubt His name, even when it looks like His wrath is being poured out upon you. You will be rewarded greatly for continuing to trust in Him.

15I’m always looking to the LORD because He can get my feet out of the trap.

Are we always looking to the LORD? My guess is we get ourselves into trouble, into traps, when we take our eyes off of Him. Think how Peter walked on water as he had his eyes fixed on Jesus. Yet, when he turned his eyes to the wind, he began to sink. When he cried out and turned to the LORD again, he was restored and went back into the boat with Jesus. Should you find yourself in a trap, quickly turn your eyes to the LORD Jesus Christ and be rescued. He can get your feet out of the trap.

16Turn to me and be kind to me — I am lonely and miserable.

You know, there are always times when all other helps will fail you. Your mother and faith will fail you. You siblings will fail you. Your friends will fail you. Your church will fail you. Your pastor will fail you. You will be lonely and miserable. If you have been turning to the LORD Jesus Christ all this time, if He has always been your Rock, then it won’t be difficult to ask Him to turn to you and be kind to you. If you haven’t been doing this in the past, today, and the day you feel this way, you can still call upon Him to turn to you and to be kind to you. Jesus has promised, “I will never leave you or forsake you.” You can trust in that. Even if it doesn’t feel like He is there, He is there, upholding you and giving you His strength. So start doing that and keep doing that so on the day of trouble, you will be less fearful and more confident of His eternal presence to you.

Heavenly Father, grant us to know your secret and your covenant so that on the day of trouble we may turn to you in the name of the LORD Jesus Christ and be rescued from whatever is afflicting us. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
