#DailyDevotion Eight Reasons To Believe In Jesus

##DailyDevotion Eight Reasons To Believe In Jesus

John 20: 30His disciples saw Jesus do many other miracles that are not written in this book. 31But these things are written so that you believe Jesus is the Christ, God’s Son, and by believing have life in His name.

Believing in Jesus, who he is and what he has done is a big thing in the Gospel of John. In chapter one John starts off with, “12But to all who welcomed Him, who believe in His name, He gave the right to become God’s children. 13They have been born, not of the blood of parents, nor of a sexual desire, nor of a man’s desire, but of God.” Believing in Jesus makes you child of God. This faith and this being born is not of our own doing. It is God’s will and doing that we come to faith in Jesus and become God’s children.

John writes in chapter three, 14“As Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up 15so that everyone who believes in Him has everlasting life. 16God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son so that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have everlasting life.” ”In chapter 5 he writes, “24I tell you the truth, if you listen to what I say and believe Him Who sent Me, you have everlasting life, and you will not be judged, but you have come from death to life.” In chapter 6 Jesus says, “40Yes, My Father wants everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him to have everlasting life, and He wants Me to raise him on the last day.” There are of course many other passages I could quote from John’s gospel about the importance of believing in Jesus. But what are these many things John writes about?

While there are a number of things in John’s Gospel that he had done, most importantly are probably the seven signs that he writes about. In John’s Gospel these are:

  • The Wedding at Cana (John 2:1-11)
  • The Healing of the Nobleman’s Son (John 4:46-54)
  • The Healing of the Paralytic Man (John 5:1-15)
  • The Healing of the Man Born Blind (John 9:1-41)
  • The Raising of Lazarus (John 11:38-44)
  • The Feeding of the 5,000 (John 6:1-14)
  • Jesus Walking on the Sea (John 6:15-21)

What do these seven signs tell us about Jesus that we should believe in him? Namely who Jesus is as John described him in the opening verses of his Gospel, he is the Word of God who is God. These signs point us to Jesus as the Holy One of God who has come into the world.

But there is one more sign, the sign of Jonah which is the 8th sign that calls us to believe in Jesus. That of course is the resurrection. Because Jesus is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen, never to die again is the final sign that tells us Jesus is the Son of God who has come into the world to save us, to save you. He promises eternal life and the resurrection to eternal life to all who would believe in him. Believe in Jesus today.

Heavenly Father, you sent your Son Jesus Christ into the world so that through believing in him we would be born of you and have eternal life. Grant us faith in Jesus so we too may be raised eteranally and escape judgment on the Last Day. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
