#DailyDevotion Don’t Listen To Your Fears. Wait On The LORD!

Psalm 27 12Don’t give me up to the will of my enemies, because they appear against me as false witnesses, breathing out accusations of crime.

There will be days when false witnesses will come out against you. They will most likely be people who are jealous, envious of you, of who you are and what you have. Sometimes they interpret your happiness as smugness but if they only asked you, you would have shared your joy with them. But they cannot have joy and happiness except in the misery of others. Their joy and happiness though is perverted. You will see this a lot in movies and tv shows because it happens. Saul was jealous of David when David only wanted good for Saul. The Pharisees, Scribes and Priests were jealous of Jesus because of the attention He got. If they followed Jesus, His glory would have been theirs. Of course the devil and all his minions unceasingly accuse us daily in our hearts but they can no longer do so to God. They may be correct at times, though they certainly will pervert the truth. We simply can tell them, โ€œWhat you say may be true, but Jesus atoned for my sin and reconciled me to God the Father. He will no longer listen to you.โ€

13I’m sure I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.

While we may see good in this world among the people of the world who are dead, dead in trespasses and sins, our ultimate hope and certainty is to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. The land of the living is not this world. We are surrounded by people whose souls are dead. It is the New Heavens and New Earth where righteousness reigns we are looking forward to. Everyone there receives eternal life in this age and has shaken off these mortal coils for new glorious bodies like Jesus’ resurrected glorified body. I can endure all things if I have hope to dwell with God and Christ Jesus in the world to come. This age with whatever I perceive as good is well just ok. But everything in it is transitory. It all will be burnt with fire even as the LORD once cleansed it with water in the time of Noah. Then we will inherit a purified creation which last for all eternity. I can wait on that.

14Wait for the LORD to help you. Be strong and full of courage. Yes, wait for the LORD.

It is difficult to wait on the LORD. Our fears get us all riled up. โ€œDo something!โ€ either our hearts or the crowds tell us in fear. Don’t listen to them. Put your faith in the promises of God. Set your fears aside. Wait. Wait for the LORD to help you. Remember Saul who lost his kingdom because he would wait for Samuel to light the sacrifice? You can read about it in 1 Samuel 13:8ff. Saul got afraid because it was getting late so he offered up the sacrifice instead of Samuel. He did not wait on the LORD. How many times have you acted out of fear and what you did failed? Wait on the LORD no matter what. No matter what your heart is yelling at you, no matter what the people around you are doing, wait on the LORD to fulfill His promises. He has made so many wonderful and good promises through Jesus, the apostles, and prophets. They apply to everything in life. This verse alone should be enough to give you courage to wait on God to deliver you. Mind you, He usually works through means, i.e. people, places, things and circumstances to bring about the answer to your prayer. The answer will not be opposed to the revealed will of God from the Scriptures. Don’t be like the man who rejects a canoe, a boat and a helicopter the LORD sends to rescue him in a flood. Be like the widow who prays for food and thanks God He arranges an atheist to buy them for her. (These are jokes. Look them up ๐Ÿ™‚ )

Heavenly Father, grant us good courage in the midst of so many fears to trust in Your promises and wait for You to deliver to us the answer to our prayers. May I hope to dwell in the land of the living give us courage to live out this life without fear. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
