Psalm 72 9The desert people will bow to Him, and His enemies will lick the dust. 10The kings of Tarshish and the islands will pay tribute; the kings of Sheba and Seba will bring gifts. 11All the kings will worship Him, and all the nations serve Him;

David continues to bless his son, whom one might think is Solomon. Certainly Solomon is a type of the Son David is blessing. He fulfills it in many ways like these verses above. But it is King David’s greater Son, Jesus Christ who will fulfill these words, who will be blessed like this on the day of judgment into eternity. Everyone, every nation, people, tribe and tongue will be subject to Jesus when He returns in judgment.

12because He will rescue the needy who call for help and the oppressed who have no one to help them. 13He will pity the weak and the poor and save the lives of the needy. 14He will free them from oppression and violence; their blood will be precious in His sight.

Jesus has already rescued us from sin, death and the power of the devil. We may well experience many rescues in this life. It will be when Jesus comes again in glory we shall see the ultimate fulfillment of these verses. It is our hope that we have faith in Jesus to have these words fulfilled by Him. Nothing gets by Jesus’ eyes. He sees the suffering of the poor and the oppressed. He knows how the weak, poor and needy live now and will have pity on them in eternity. Whatever violence they have experienced and whenever their blood was shed, it is precious in His sight. These wrongs will be undone by Him and those who are unrepentant will suffer. If those who sinned did not repent and believe Jesus suffered their punishment on the cross, they will experience for all eternity what is their due. Those who want justice now can simply look to the cross of Jesus and know justice was given to them already on His cross.

15May He live long and may the gold of Sheba be given to Him. Let prayer be made for Him continually, and may they praise Him all day long. 16May there be plenty of grain in the country; may it grow even on top of mountains, its fruit blossom like Lebanon, and the people from the city will flourish like grass on the ground. 17May His name endure forever, and His name increase as long as the sun shines. May all nations be blessed in Him and call Him blessed.

It will be really nice, no wonderful, marvelous when Jesus returns as our King and sets all things right. There will be no more curse on creation. There will be no more sin in the world to bring about a curse. All creation will be renewed by Him and His reign. We will live the lives God had always intended on us to live in this world.

Jesus’ name will endure forever. His name has been exalted above every name in heaven, on earth or under the earth. He is the blessed seed of Abraham in whom all nations are blessed and whom all nations bless.

18Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel; Who alone does wonderful things. 19May His glorious name be blessed forever, and His glory will fill the whole world. Let it be so! Let it be so! 20The prayers of David, Jesse’s son, end here.

Blessed are You, Heavenly Father, who alone does wonderful things. You sent Your only-begotten Son to be the Son of David in whom the world finds everlasting salvation, justice and righteousness. Your glory and the glory of You Son, Jesus Christ fills all creation. Always give us Your Holy Spirit that we may believe this and hope in His promises so we may live and reign with Him forever. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
